Press Release:

Pray For Newark Website

January 21, 2008

NEWARK, NJ:   A new website is being launched today to foster concerted prayer for the streets of Newark.  This website, www.prayfornewark.org, is being announced at the 8th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr., Urban Convocation at the Hilton Gateway.  The goal of this website is to develop a sustainable model that will lead to daily prayer for 100% of the streets of Newark by the end of this year.
Prayfornewark.org is sponsored by three nonprofit ministries: World Impact-Newark, The Caring Network Volunteer Services, and the Technology Community Outreach Ministry of Newark.  Through this website a person who is interested in praying for Newark can complete an online form to adopt a particular street in Newark, or alternatively to pray for a street that is suggested by the sponsors.  The website also includes detailed information about Newark, about the biblical basis for praying for “highways of holiness”, and a chat room to link together people who are praying for a particular street or neighborhood in the city.  This website can also be adapted for use by those who are interested in setting up a prayer website in other cities.
In 1857-58 Newark experienced a great spiritual revival that resulted in the conversion of more than 3000 individuals, particularly in the Reformed, Baptist, Methodist, and Presbyterian churches.  This move of God began in Fulton Street in New York City and spread throughout the metropolitan area as 2000 intercessors saturated New York in systematic prayer for every individual and street.  Today this method of systematic prayer is known as “prayer evangelism” and is being used to transform cities and nations around the world.

Many communities in the United States recognize the value of “adopting a highway” to improve the physical appearance of their major traffic arteries.  The concept of “adopting a street” for prayer offers similar benefits in the spiritual realm.  When a prayer warrior commits to pray for a particular street, he or she develops an interest and prayer burden for the people who live, work, or travel along that street.  The Bible suggests that praying for a “highway of holiness” also produces the following six benefits:  (1) Linking together Kingdom-minded people who live in different communities, (2) Facilitating the flow of people and materials that are needed to rebuild decayed cities, (3) Infusing hope into situations that appear hopeless from a human perspective, (4) Enabling the people of God to take back land that has been stolen by the enemy, (5) Changing the spiritual climate by inviting the Kingdom of God into the present situation, and (6) Helping to prepare the way for the Savior’s return to earth.
For further information visit www.prayfornewark.org .  This site indicates how to adopt a street in Newark or obtain additional information from the sponsoring organizations.
